Dear Owen,
When people ask me, "So, what's Owen doing now?", the first answer that comes to mind is, "He's yelling." :) At some point you discovered that you can yell, and you don't mind demonstrating...often. We initially yelled back, thinking it was funny. But as the yelling has become more and more frequent, we are now doing our best to avoid giving you any added encouragement. As if the yelling wasn't enough on it's own... you also tighten your little fists at your sides when you're angry... or happy. As your Aunt Jen has said, "It's like all of Owen's emotions travel right to his hands!" You've also started shaking your head back and forth. You are certainly a character.
You've started playing peek-a-boo... kind of. You put your hands over your eyes (usually only successfully hiding one of them), and then sit back and enjoy our questioning, "Where's Owen?".... And that's it. You haven't quite figured out that there's suppose to be a big "reveal" after the hiding. You put your hands down eventually, but the hiding is clearly the fun part to you.
You make friends wherever you go. I had to laugh when I told Daddy last week that 5 different people stopped us in the grocery store to say hi to you or comment on your flirtatious smile. You were the grouchiest, most miserable baby that day -and yet you put on a smile for anyone that looked your way! It was quite amusing.
Feeding you has become an olympic sport- with us playing defense against the spray that is sure to come. You love to make sounds with your mouth, sticking your tongue out and blowing while you eat. When the meal is complete, your feeder is surely a mess... as are you! You frequently pat your own head with both hands while you eat, delivering lots of sticky foods to your ever growing hair. As a result, your baths have become more frequent.
Speaking of food, you eat just about everything. You now have 4 teeth (2 top, 2 bottom), with a 5th (top) working it's way through. You have a growing appetite and eat just about anything we put in front of you. You attended two recent birthday parties where we let you have a small piece of cake... I think the photos speak for themselves.
We are officially done with breastfeeding, which makes me very sad. But you weren't all that interested in it anymore. We do still give you a bottle of breast milk in the morning and before bed. You are still a wonderful sleeper, routinely taking 2 naps, totaling close to 4 hours. And you sleep 12 hours at night. Thankfully you have adjusted to belly sleeping and we no longer have to go in and turn you over.
We've also started letting you sleep with a lovey, Zibby. Yes, I had some kind of creative spark of genius and named your zebra (we think), Zibby. You love him, and can often be seen on the monitor, swinging him around to try and hit your mobile of elephants (or "ellies", as we call them).
You push up on your arms when on your belly, and occasionally work yourself into a push-up. I personally find it hilarious. :)
You only VERY rarely push up onto all fours, and aren't trying to pull up to a standing position just yet.
We've noticed you becoming more and more aware of our routines, and anticipating each thing. For example... you know when we walk up the stairs, that there is a very good chance we'll be going into your room, which means there's a very good chance you will have your diaper changed... you hate having your diaper changed. So naturally, walking up the stairs frequently results in you fussing. When we walk toward the front door, you get very excited that we might actually open it and sit outside with you, which you love. So you begin excitedly waving your arms and legs in anticipation.
It is so fun to see you learning and understanding different things.
It goes without saying, but we love you so much Owen. Your smile truly brightens my day.
Happy 10 months!
